X-Original-Message-ID: 7ajvb4$n87$1@nnrp1.dejanews.com Robert watched Debbie step into the archway and vanish, only to appear a
moment later moving through the throng of people, beings and creatures who
flowed by the invisible barrier that separated the lounge from the rest of
whatever this place was. He felt his heart rise into his throat as she
disappeared from view, and stood, staring, at where she had passed out of
sight around the frame of the window or opening or whatever it was.
"Awwww" he heard the orange woman say and pulled his gaze to her. She
was still seated behind the counter but her eyes glistened impishly and she
was smiling. "That’s so sweet" she said, her voice holding an edge of a
sigh. "You must be terribly devoted to her." Robert was about to tell
this fruit colored freak that what he felt was none of her damn business, but
caught himself before the words could formed and clenched his lips together
tightly, glaring at her with open hostility. Her reaction was as if
he had growled at her. Her eyes went wide in surprise and she blinked, a mild
confusion flooding her face. Then her lips parted slightly and the smile
returned, wider and more open than before. "Well" she crooned,
teasingly "you’re a spirited one, aren’t you. Are you not yet properly
broken? Is that it?" Robert could tell she was baiting him, and as
much as he wanted to introduce her to a certain word that was very popular
for labeling females like her in his day and age, he simply gave her a cold,
nasty smile. Surprisingly, she giggled, and almost bounced in her seat.
"Oh, how wonderful" she breathed with satisfaction. "You are special,
aren’t you. Why, I’ll bet if I were to grab you, you’d even attack me,
wouldn’t you." Robert suddenly felt a flush of wariness come over him,
because the orange woman was rising from her seat as she spoke, leaning down
on the counter, bringing her face nearer to his, challengingly. Instinctively
he took a small step back, away from her. She noticed this and gave him a
small quiet, amused snort. "Well" she said quietly "we’ll have to see
just how much spirit you have, won’t we. You know the way. Run along now."
Robert was momentarily confused but then it struck him that he’d seen another
man from the flight go through a door over in the left wall. He turned to
look in that direction, saw the outline of the door, turned back to the
orange woman and, without ever after understanding exactly why, puckered his
lips in a mocking kiss, popping it at her with a quiet smack. Her eyes
instantly went wide with surprise and delight and she giggled. Robert spun on
his heel and moved smoothly over toward the door. As he approached it slid
open and he stepped straight into the rather unglamorous, narrow, white
colored hallway beyond, hearing it slide closed behind him. The
instant the door had closed the orange woman was on her comm-link, entering
the code from memory she didn’t dare record anywhere and quickly composed a
brief, encrypted message, smiling to herself about the fact that she was
about to have a very rewarding and lucrative communication. Debbie walked out of the large archway through the thin force shield
and found herself standing on a wide walkway at the edge of what looked to
her like some sort of street that seemed to issue a dull, blue glow. At the
edge of the walkway were a line of small, lumpish looking machines that she
instantly knew were public vehicles. Taxis. She strode directly to the one
directly in front of her, noticed and understood that the small indentation
on its side was the door handle, pressed a fingertip on it and a wide
hatchway slid open in the side of the vehicle with a quiet hiss. She slid
into the long, low back seat and the door closed behind her. In the center of
the front seat was the back of the head of what looked to be a creature very
much like a walrus or sea lion, the skin she could see a greyish brown and
glistening with moisture. "Where to" came a deep, gruff voice from a
small speaker in the back of the forward seat. "House of Indulgence"
she replied. She heard a low whine as the engine of the vehicle fired
up, and the dull rumble as it began to move slowly forward. "You want
windows?" the gruff voice from the speaker said. "I don’t care" she said
with a sigh, her thoughts focused on the unease she was feeling being
separated from Robert in this strange place. She turned her attention to
the view beyond the darkly tinged window at the passing sights beyond. She
saw the space port fall away behind her as the vehicle began to pick up speed
and then it appeared as if the machine was sailing high over the glowing,
tightly packed collection of buildings below. She was only vaguely aware that
roadways here were mostly like elevated trains were back in her own time, on
her own world. She settled back and tried to focus on what she had to do
next. The name that came to her once again was Sandistra. Someone of
that name was who she was supposed to meet. But then her brow furrowed as it
slowly seemed to bubble up in her thoughts that this Sandistra was, in fact,
not the person who would give her the information she had come to retrieve,
but someone she should exercise caution with. And then she suddenly knew that
whoever Sandistra was, they were merely the next link in the chair that would
take her to the information, but were completely unaware that would be what
they were doing. But why, she thought. And it came to her. Because Sandistra
was not trustworthy. For the right price Sandistra would look aside when
certain things were done, would take a tiny step outside what was legal or
accepted, but if given too much information was as likely as not to find
other ways to make it pay. So, Debbie realized, Sandistra didn’t know what
was going on. Debbie sighed, realizing that on her own this entire
thing was overwhelming. She needed Robert’s reassurance, the surety of his
presence, the comfort of knowing that there were two of them, together, to
face any problems, any difficulties. That was why she had longed to be
married to him in the first place. Going off on her own like this was very
uncomfortable, she thought, and she simply wanted to get it over with and get
back to him as quickly as she could. She felt the machine turn and
looked out the window, startled to realize that they were now at ground
level, moving between lumpy, brownish buildings. The architecture was strange
and primitive, as if huge mud huts had been crammed together in an oversized,
crowded village somewhere. Yet clearly this was a bustling, energetic city.
With a sigh she leaned back and decided that it wasn’t important for her to
understand such things. Finally the machine slowed to a stop and the
hatchway slid open with a his. "Name" came the gruff voice from the
speaker. Debbie repeated the lie of being Jem Alaasha and gave the long
code grouping once more. "Thank you" the voice said. Debbie slid
from the machine and found herself standing on what looked very much like an
ordinary sidewalk from her own time, facing the heavy looking, rounded door
of a building. A small metallic plate was affixed to its center and as Debbie
stepped up she noticed it was some indecipherable alien script. With a silent
hope that she was in the right place she raised a hand and placed her palm on
the door. Nothing happened for several seconds and she was about to
step back and look around when the door gave a low hiss and swung open.
Standing on the other side was a tall creature, dwarfing her with its 8 foot
height, though its thin frame gave it a brittle, vulnerable appearance. It
gleamed in the light and Debbie realized that though it had a pair of spindly
arms and legs and a decidedly human torso, it seemed that it has some sort of
hard exoskeleton of a pale tan coloring. Debbie drew in a quick, startled
breath as the creature bent down, it’s bullet shaped head finally coming onto
view under the top of the arched door frame. "I - I’m expected" she said,
her voice almost quavering, eyes wide. The creature seemed to have little
in the way of facial features, merely a slightly darkened place at the top of
its head that might have been what it used for eyes. It tipped its gaze at
her a moment then awkwardly stepped back, holding the door open for her to
enter. Debbie swallowed hard and stepped through the door into what turned
out to be a surprisingly dark space that seemed to be carpeted on every
surface. Beneath her feet she could feel thick padding and where flat
surfaces jutted from the walls in places where furniture might be discretely
placed in a typical foyer of her own day, they too were covered with a thick,
dark, velvety type of material. The creature stepped past her and dropped
forward onto all fours, somehow looking much more natural, like a spindly
spider, it’s body level to the floor. It moved to one of the several openings
off this particular space, stopped, looked back at her and then passed
through into another space. Debbie followed. The room she stepped into was
large, low ceilinged and plush, with many jutting walls and angles made out
of various shimmering, colorful surfaces, looking very much like screens
haphazardly placed around the small, low grouping of furniture in the center
of the space. Even as she stepped into the room and the creature scuttled off
at an angle toward another opening Debbie saw another presence and instantly
knew this was Sandistra. She was clearly female, with large breasts billowing
under her loose, floor-length gown, but her cranium was at least three times
the size of a human, completely devoid of hair, bearing only a swirling chain
that wrapped around it like a delicate, metallic spider web and sparkled in
the dimly glowing sidelighting, looking remarkably appealing when set against
the bluish tint of her skin. An instant after Debbie noticed her she was
already flowing across the room, her long, shapely arms extended in an
exaggerated gesture of welcome. "My dear Alaasha" she crooned, her voice
covered with the think accent of some alien language "how wonderful to meet
you at last." She stepped up to Debbie, placing her hands lightly on the
surprised redheads upper arms and leaned forward to make a tiny smacking
noise on either side of Debbie’s face before straightening to regard her with
an impish grin on her deep purple colored lips. "So" she said, her
voice mischievous and secretive "your message said you would be arriving
soon, but I did not think it would be so soon." She let a quiet, tinkling
laugh bubble from her throat and turned, slipping one arm through Debbie’s
own and pulling her gently toward the small grouping of low, plush seats in
the center of the room. "Well, you will be happy to know that your
arrival has been excellently timed and I believe you will be eminently
pleased by what I have found for you." She guided Debbie to a low
couch-like seat and released her, allowing her to lower herself into it and
find to her surprise that it seemed to mould to her shape for the ultimate in
comfort. Sandistra turned, flowed over to a similar seat opposite and settled
onto its edge with a proper, erect posture. As she did so the insectoid
creature appeared through the door through which he had previously vanished,
scuttling smoothly forward on three limbs while the fourth held up a large
tray containing two shimmering crystal goblets. He slid across the room,
stopping to extend the tray toward Sandistra with a bowed head. The blue
woman swept one of the goblets from the tray absently, her violet eyed gaze
never leaving Debbie’s face. The creature turned slightly, extending the tray
toward Debbie who hesitated only an instant before reaching to accept the
other goblet. As soon as she had taken it the creature turned and scuttled
off back toward the door through which it had entered and disappeared.
Debbie heard Sandistra chortle quietly and looked back at her. "Do not
worry" the blue woman said reassuringly "it is only sweetwater. I would not
presume to offer you anything that would… shall we say…. cloud your full
enjoyment of what you came for today." With that the blue woman tipped
her own goblet to her lips and sipped it. Debbie followed suit and discovered
that the drink tasted very much like a soft drink from her own time. She
lowered the goblet and smiled across at Sandistra. "So" she said,
hoping her tone was suitably haughty and bored "what exactly have you
arranged for me." Sandistra’s eyes seemed to flare with delight and she
leaned slightly forward. "Something quite unexpected and marvelous" the blue
woman practically whispers, genuine excitement in her voice. "Your message
said that you wanted something unusual… unique… and I did my best to find it
for you. But the fact that you stipulated a… what is the word… ah, yes… a
virgin… that was quite a challenge." Debbie felt a sudden shock flick
through her insides at the same instant a flash of understanding hit her
brain. Virginity was a true rarity in many parts of the galaxy, at least
among sexual species and particularly in those individuals who had reached
physical maturity. There were those species that had virtually no sexuality
at all. She found it somewhat disturbing to realize at the same moment that
her own species now fell into that category. Other species were fully
functional sexually but the appetite for amusement and pleasure of the new
power that was rolling through the galaxy plucked up most of the suitable
individuals just as they reached sexual maturity and turned them into private
property of the elite classes. Finding a genuine virgin, particularly a male
who was both mature and not yet claimed by someone else was a true challenge.
But Debbie could see from the expression on Sandistra’s face that she had
somehow managed it. "I must be honest with you" the blue woman was
saying "and tell you that it wasn’t really as a result of my efforts that
this good fortune occurred. In fact, it was more an act or nature or pure
random circumstance. You see, soon after I had received your message that you
would be visiting our lovely world and had heard that I was the only one who
could be relied upon to supply the greatest in personal, private
entertainment’s, I got word from a very dear friend that there was just such
a male as you desired who had become available." "Oh?" Debbie said, trying
to sound only mildly interested. "Indeed" Sandistra beamed. "And it
should interest you to know that this particular male only happens to be of
actual, genuine, royal blood. In fact, he’s a Prince." Debbie’s eyes went
wide, in spite of herself. Sandistra noticed this and squealed with delight.
"I know" she burst in giggling "isn’t it wonderful? Let me tell you
how it happened. It seems his world has only very recently been absorbed into
the… enlightened arms of the new order…" This judicious statement was
accompanied by a tightening of her smile before she continued. "…and was on a
tour of certain of the worlds to introduce himself, his blood line and
culture to those more established members of the great enlightenment. Well,
you know such things are allowed, but the individual governments will,
naturally, not be responsible for those expenses. And it just so happens that
his home world has very little that is considered of much value throughout
this part of the collective. Well, the long and brief of it is… he simply ran
out of resources!" Sandistra tipped back her bulbous, blue head and
roared with delighted laughter for a long moment before fixing her impish
smile on Debbie once more. "When he realized that his resources were
running low and that the ban on shipping from his home world would not allow
him to get more he used the last of his funds to get his entire retinue back
to their own planet, in rather poor class accommodations, I might add.
Granted, a noble gesture but foolish. After all, he could have sold them for
more than enough to see to his own comfort. Still, there is no accounting for
taste, is there." Sandistra gave a small, tight smile and plunged
ahead with her story. "Well, as soon as I heard that he was casting around
for some way to earn additional capital to see to his own passage, I put out
a few little inquiries, and discovered that, because of his position on his
own planet, he was supposed to remain unsullied until bonded to a life mate.
And that suited your request precisely, did it not? So, I went and had a look
at him and let me tell you, my dear, you will not be in the least
disappointed. He is… how can I state this…. beyond merely appealing. Well,
I’ll leave you to judge that for yourself, naturally. At any rate, I
immediately placed your proposition before him and, reluctantly, he agreed.
He’s been my guest ever since and even now awaits your arrival. Of course, I
knew from your reputation that cost would be of no object to you….?"
She tipped her head slightly as if to point up the subtle question. Debbie
managed to give a disinterested nod and a dismissive flick of her hand.
Sandistra beamed. "…so, there you are. Everything is arranged and you may,
of course, avail yourself of this at any time you like." She settled
back, her expression slightly smug and self-satisfied. Debbie’s stomach
was churning, a fluttering mass of confusion, but she took firm hold on her
breathing and forced herself to give the blue woman a slow, thin smile.
"Well" she said with a bored sigh "I suppose there’s no reason to wait then,
is there. I’ll have him now, if you don’t mind." Sandistra’s eyes flared
for a moment in surprise but then an impressed expression flooded her face.
"Well, of course, my dear. Good Helsha, I can see what they say about your
attitude toward your pleasures is true. Never wait, never scrimp." Again
she smiled and rose from the seat. Debbie rose opposite her. Sandistra glided
over and looped her arm once again through Debbie’s guiding her gently toward
a large opening in the back wall of the room. She leaned in conspiratorially
as she moved. "Just between the two of us" she said quietly "if you like,
I can arrange a mass coupling the like of which you can not even imagine. A
dozen species at least. Such pleasure you will never have experienced in your
life." "Oh, I think just this for now" Debbie managed to say, realizing
with relief that her voice was not trembling. "Of course" Sandistra replied,
a twinge of disappointment in her tone.
